Let's Capture Our Memories and Lily Bee June Sketch
Today I am sharing a little about sketches and a lot about layering over at Let's Capture Our Memories so I also wanted to share a bit about that here on my own blog...
First of all, I started with the June Lily Bee sketch. Cute, huh?
and here is my page
"so blessed girl"
This page is very close to the sketch, but it adds a LOT of laying. I love adding paper after paper and bits of everything as I build my pages, but there are a few things I have learned as I do that and wanted to share them with you all today...
The first thing I do before starting a page is start with a neutral or simple background. If you are going to keep layering and adding it is helpful if that back paper is not competing for the attention.
Also, in choosing the papers, I make sure they compliment and not compete with my photo(s). Often I use one or more colors in the photo, them complimentary colors. You can look HERE, where you can really have fun looking and playing with color. Color is such an important part of what catches your eye on a page, but remember it is also all about what YOU love. Just choose what looks best to you in the end and you will love it. Art is different for everyone, that makes it so special.
Next I pull out the flat embellies, such a doilies, tags, bits and washi and add bits and pieces. Once all my flat embellies are in place I pull the page up to my sewing machine and start sewing. I have a lot of crinkled edges, so as I put them through the machine I use a paper piercer to hold the paper in place until right before it goes under the needle, otherwise it will flatten as you sew.
Next I dress my page with a title, some sprinkles such a mist and jewels and any last minute stitching. I look for the colors I have started with and just add bits in those colors to compliment.
In the end layering is fun, but it is your story and your life and it is noteworthy.
So have fun and be creative and please if try layering on your next layout leave a comment and I will come take a look!
