Week 11
This week was really full and fun!
George Washington
George Washington paper plate crafts were on the list of things we wanted to create for this week.
We also pulled out our tricorn hats to wear again.
Two of our favorite book basket books this week were

We found this really fun tutorial for creating George Washington timelines a couple of weeks ago and pulled them out again.
We had printed out the free printouts, cut them out, and laminated the pieces.
Then, we attached velcro to each piece.
Next, we stuck each timeline piece to the large paint stick with a strip of velcro placed along the center of the stick.
We created these little George Washington mini books. They can be found here. My girls really enjoyed the simple coloring and then we read them together. Mini books are always a favorite around here.
I am so thankful for all the free and inexpensive resources we find online.

I spent way too long creating this Guess Who with president printouts I found online.
but it has been played so many times this week, so I know it was worth the time.

Not only could they guess using the images, but the mini cards also included some basic facts, such as their political party and the dates of their term(s).

State Studies Begin (Delaware)
This week we began our state studies. These studies on each state are meant to be a gentle introduction, a basic overview. My girls enjoyed reading the facts on the back of the sheet, coloring in the flower and bird, as well as labeling the capital. We went ahead and took our state flashcards, broke them up (from letter-sized perforated sheets), laminated them each individually, and placed them on a large ring. I think this will be the best way for us to use them this year.

This preamble scramble was also a nice addition.
We have packed these things away for when we do Exploration to 1850. I know it was worth the extra time to create them, since we will be using them again before too long. Seasons and years pass so quickly. so quickly.

We love these stories and this set was the perfect match up for this school year.
Water
(Wet and Dry)
We did some more fun water experiments this week. One of our favorites was testing what would happen with some dried peas when water was added to them.
The cover actually did pop off of the jar in the end. It was a great experiment!
