Lamb of God

As a surprise for my girls this week I created a little lamb puppet for
John 1:29

They really loved having a little puppet friend to play with as they recited their verse this week.
Eli Whitney
We read about Eli Whitney this week and about the cotton gin. It was very interesting to the girls, since we have never seen a cotton plant in real life before... well, until this week!
First, we did an experiment with cotton balls with green "seeds" of paper, as shared in our lessons, to see how hard it would be to pull the seeds out, while leaving the cotton in tact. We learned that this is actually a very hard job!
First we cut little green squares of construction paper and gathered cotton balls.
Next, we carefully put the green paper into the cotton balls. We set them aside.
Lastly, we worked to get the paper out of the cotton, trying to leave the cotton in tact.
It was not as easy as the girls thought it would be.

We decided to use a shoe box, paper towel roll, and some tooth picks to recreate the Eli Whitney cotton gin. It was really fun to think about how it might have felt to see the very first one invented and see it actually working! Even more, to be the inventor!

I thought it would be even more real to them if we could see, feel, and explore with real cotton bolls. The girls really enjoyed seeing them in real life and spending the time learning together.
State Study (Tennessee)
We completed the Tennessee notebook page.
In a little corner of our bedroom, I watched the older sister read Daniel's Duck to the younger sister.
This was such a sweet book from the book basket list, and we had many sweet conversations, as a result. I would highly recommend reading this book with your little ones.

We read Genesis 1 and then listed out all of the living/nonliving things on our chalkboard.

We created this gelatin cell model. The red jello represented the cytoplasm, the grape represented the nucleus, and the mandarin orange slices represented the organelles.
For dinner one night we had this very tasty animal cell pizza.
Over the course of the week we learned about bacteria with an experiment using milk.
We placed one jar of raw milk in the back of our refrigerator and one jar on top of the refrigerator to see what would happen throughout the week with each jar.
It was very obvious to see how the milk was effected by the lack of refrigeration and to see what the bacteria in the milk had caused. It smelled and looked very bad!
At the end of our studies on living things we celebrated with this animal cell cake!
It was another sweet week!
